Jessie Zubiran - Curator

As a photographer, I explore the beauty of the image that isn't familiar to all. The images I capture show how I feel about a particular thought or idea, and from that comes the photograph. Black and white photography is like a memory that is frozen in time and forgotten by a whole by civilization, by humanity itself. I graduated from the Creative Arts High School in 2006. I have been a part of In Progress since 2004 and have been taking photographs since before then. I curated my first exhibit for In Progress in the fall of 2004 and have been involved in most of their exhibits ever since then. My artform is 35mm photography but I'm also starting to work with video now. I just got a job at Rudie’s Coffeehouse - one of my other favorite spots in town and I am ready to take advantage of any opportunity put in front of me these days. As a curator, I am responsible for selecting themes and artwork for each exhibit, painting walls, framing, printing, hanging, publicizing, and staying in contact with the artists presented in each show. It's allot of work and a lot of responsibility.

As the 2007 In Progress Curator I will be putting together 3-5 exhibits for the Twin Cities community. My goal is to start with a couple of local coffee houses - Rudie’s, maybe the Black Dog and of course Starbuck’s - which is one of our sponsors this year. Of course, I will also be working to put together the Spring Art Crawl that will take place sometime this coming April. If you have ideas for a show or would like to work with In Progress to get the great art of our artists out, then I am the person to get a hold of.
