Rules of Participation

Consider your potential.  What could you accomplish if you had 24/7 access to the digital tools that have already unlocked your imagination, creativity and voice?  What would you do?  What would you say?  Who would you influence in your work as an In Progress artist?  It’s up to you. 

The Digital Journeys Initiative is designed for our bravest and strongest artists - the ones that know that their destiny is that of an artist and a storyteller.  It is an opportunity to shine but requires dedication, discipline and loyalty.  Please review the rules for participation outlined below.  If you qualify and if you agree, you have within your power the ability to not only help In Progress but to help yourself to gain the independence and responsibility worthy of a professional artist and storyteller.

RULE #01

You must be an active In Progress artist with the following qualifications:

•minimum of one years experience as an In Progress artist;

•active volunteer or intern with In Progress providing instructional, administrative or curatorial support;

•be in good standing regarding general check-out and use of In Progress equipment;

•at least 16 years old;

•must receive final approval from In Progress’ Executive Director through a formal interview process.

RULE #02

You agree to report bi-monthly to In Progress staff regarding your progress with fundraising activities including the following:

review of receipt book;

turning in of all check and cash donations;

a general action plan regarding fundraising activities;

list of questions cited by contributors.

RULE #03

You agree to raise the required amount of $2500 within a one year period of time.  If you are unable to raise the funds within this period, your contract may be voided upon the authority of the Executive Director and placed towards the another Digital Journey’s backpack activity.

RULE #04

Within four weeks of raising the designated amount of $2500, In Progress staff will purchase the Digital Journeys Backpack.  During that time determination of the following will be negotiated with In Progress staff:

customization of the Digital Journey’s Backpack to be placed in your care;

a written volunteer plan that will outline how your first year of volunteerism to be spent (average of 5 hrs per wk for a total of 250 hours per year).

RULE #05

Upon receipt of your Digital Journeys Backpack you will sign a written letter of agreement that includes the following:

•a written description of your outlined volunteer plan and a timeline with tentatively scheduled dates and times of your activities. (this agreement must be approved by an authorized In Progress administrator prior to receipt of the backpack);

•your promise to use the backpack for the sole purpose of creating artwork, volunteering at In Progress, and/or use as a teaching tool with other In Progress artists;

•agreement to take full responsibility for the ongoing care and maintenance of the backpack including quarterly inspection by In Progress staff, and continued fundraising efforts of $250 per year of use to cover repairs and software updates of your computer;

•agreement to keep the backpack safe from theft, peril, or accidental loss.  It is understood that if you place any of the tools at risk due to carelessness or neglect, you will lose all future access to In Progress equipment and may be held liable for the replacement of lost or damaged tools.

RULE #06

If you find yourself at anytime unable to fulfill the above obligations, you agree to return the backpack and its contents to In Progress in the same condition as when you received it.  At that time, the In Progress Executive Director will provide you with a letter and the nullified contract, relinquishing you of your responsibilities. 

If you find yourself in a position where you can afford to purchase your own tools, need to move or for personal reasons cannot fulfill your volunteer hours, In Progress will recycle your backpack and make it available to another artist or In Progress program. 

Please keep in mind that In Progress will work with you to revise your volunteer plan if you have a valid family, school, or work emergency.  All revisions must be approved in writing by the Executive Director.

RULE #07

Make great artwork!  Show others what you have to say.  Spread the word and your enthusiasm for this artform.  Be brave and be proud of what you have accomplished.
