in progress - staff & board roster
I focus on rendering real objects to bring across abstract ideas. Rather than abstracting the form of an object such as a skeleton, I might creates a scene from straight forward skeletons or animals to create a scene from an alternate reality.
I began working in pencils but was limited by constantly erasing, correcting and detail orientation. Under the guidance of high school mentor artist Rocky Hose (seriously) I moved into ink and paint, learning to draw from the arm rather than the wrist.
I am a 21 -year-old visual artist. I work in mostly ink and digital painting. I joined in Progress in 2002 and had work in hung in the Art Crawl. In 2004 my piece "A funny thing" was a part of the Ordway Honors high school arts showcase, which selected entries from all metro area high schools. That same year I was selected in Minnesota Center for the Creation of Book Arts' mentorship program By Design. I have completed 40 hours of volunteer work there in order to gain credits that can be spent on studio time.
I have been involved in many volunteer activities, with organizations like Asian Media Access and LEAP English Academy. Aiding with teaching English to refugees has influenced her ideas about language and understanding. She tries to incorporate this experience into her comedy and art.
At In Progress I lead workshops that use digital tools to make art by hand. Right now you can reach me at my stencil workshop every saturday from 1-4, or I can be reached for appointments at thelotusduck@gmail.com
