in progress - ogichidaakweg

  1. Ogichidaakweg (Sisters In Leadership) was developed in 1998 to help young Ojibwe girls see their potential and act upon it. Since its inception, more than 130 young women from Leech Lake Nation have participated in weaving together lessons in history, culture, and political activism through the arts of digital media, dialogue, and writing.  The program provides mentorship opportunities for young women that facilitate the long-term development of their artistic skills, public voices and leadership capabilities.

  2. Ogichidaakweg is a multi-generational program that follows girls into womanhood and supports them as they struggle, learn and prosper. It is a program that builds leadership skills for individuals living within a community.

  3. The artwork that has developed through these programs are like no others.  They represent some of the most powerful artistry.  Click on any of the communities to the left to find out more!

Shania Redday began taking pictures in 2003 as part of the Ogichidaakweg Program.  She immediately saw the connections between photography and the pride she takes in her culture.  She is still a part of In Progress today, producing artwork and learning to teach others.
