In Memoriam

Nickie Christiansen was born Helena Mae Nicholson in Saskatoon, Saskatchawan, Canada. She and her mother later moved to Vancouver, BC, where she married and had her first son, Guy Middleton. After a divorce, Nickie and Guy made their home with Nickie’s mother until Nickie met a charming Danish fellow while bowling. In 1963, she married Thomas Christiansen, and with Guy they happily formed a family. Later that year, they immigrated to the US and soon welcomed a second son, Kim. In 1964, Nickie and Tom purchased a house in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, where they raised their family.

When Guy headed off to college, Nickie happily gave up the role of homemaker to re-enter the workforce as a secretary to several departments at the University of Washington, most recently at the School of Pharmacy. After retirement in 1990, she and Tom enjoyed eight years of adventures together including trips to Mexico, Hawaii and Canada. They were inseparable until Tom’s death in 1998.

After selling the family home in 2002, Nickie enjoyed living at Chateau at Bothell Landing, a retirement community in Bothell, Washington. She loved not having to cook or do housework and soon became a fan of Bingo.

By 2006, several small strokes had begun to take their toll and resulted in the diagnosis of vascular dementia. Nickie needed additional assistance with her daily life. Angel Care Adult Family Home provided a warm, safe, comfortable home in Lake Forest Park, Washington. Maggie and Al Rogojan, along with their staff took excellent care of her in her last two years. Her sons, Guy Middleton and Kim Christiansen, and her daughter-in-law, Tina Christiansen, will miss her greatly but will always remember her laugh and love. She is mourned by many friends and her cousin Diane in England.
