Introduction
The Catholic Diocese of San Jose and the Shinnyo-en Buddhist Order has collaborated on a joint immersion experience to Tijuana, Mexico. We worked together mixing concrete for parks and schools in low-income areas of Mexico and in the evenings the rosary was prayed and Buddhist chants were shared.
Our goal was mutual respect, and ultimately to affirm each group’s faith tradition so that through this experience the Catholic and Buddhist young people would learn and experience what it means to be a better Buddhist and a better Catholic.
This goal was achieved. This website will give you a glimpse of our experience in Tijuana, Mexico which was facilitated by the non-profit group Los Niños.
Each evening our group sat in a circle and a decade of the rosary was prayed each evening. At the end of each evening we closed with the Our Father and shared a sign of peace with each other, a reminder of the peace we all desire for our world and especially the  U.S.-Mexico border region.

Shinnyo-en Buddhist Participants
Each evening the Buddhist participants chanted their daily prayers. We also read and reflected on the sayings of Jesus from the New Testament and the sayings of the Buddha from the Dhammapada.
