030107 RCSD plants deeper roots for parks division
RCSD General Manager Robert Neufeld reports on the county’s support of pool project.
The Rosamond Community Services District board of directors voted unanimously Feb. 28 to incorporate a nonprofit parks and recreation division and establish a permanent parks policy committee.
Robert Neufeld, the agency's general manager, also reported that Kern County officials support handing control of the community's West Park to the district for a proposed pool project — that board members hope to open by this summer.
The board, however, was told they would need to draft and send a formal letter to the county requesting the change before the transfer can be approved.
Neufeld told the board about U.S. Communities, a discount purchasing program administered through officer retailer Office Depot. He said the program could offer significant savings to the district, but board President Greg Wood questioned wether the program would hurt local merchants.
Neufeld told the board that he recently hired a consultant to help the district create a $20.5 million federal funding proposal for new district projects.
