Congratulations to the official winner of our “name contest”!  Zoanna Zubrowski entered the contest with her name choice of “Rubies”.  The pastors and wives felt that this name was a great way to describe our ladies’ ministry here at Chesapeake.  We loved not only how feminine it was but also how biblical it was.  On our retreat, we awarded Zoanna with a $50 gift card to Ruby Tuesday!

We’d also like to thank all the ladies who entered name choices in the contest.  It was difficult to choose just one from all the creative options we received.

Charles Spurgeon comments from the scriptures below about why rubies are so precious.  We hope to reflect these passages in the way we live our lives.  We hope the name “Rubies” will remind us of how we are to live our lives each and every day for our Savior.

Our New Name
Wednesday, March 21, 2007
'She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and on her tongue is the law of kindness.' We, who serve the Lord Jesus, meet many a time with virtuous women, of each of whom we could say with the wise king, . . . 'Her price is far above rubies."'

The preacher of whom I have spoken, interested me by the remark, . . . "Why 'above rubies'? . . . Why not above diamonds?”

My brethren, the diamond is but a pale and sickly stone, which needs the glare of candle-light or gas to set it off; but the ruby is a ruddy, healthy gem. . . which is beautiful by daylight.  - C.H. Spurgeon
