Proverbs 11:18 says, “The wicked earns deceptive wages, but one who sows righteousness gets a sure reward.” Since it is clear from Scripture that we reap what we sow, we want to be very careful in what we train our daughters.
Although our daughters, also, have a responsibility to develop their own character, they truly rely much on our help. They must CHOOSE to pursue righteousness, but we can certainly help guide them in that direction with our training.
The most important thing we must train them in as they pursue biblical womanhood is their personal relationship with God. They must learn to sit at the Lord’s feet and learn from His Word. We must be models of this – they must see how dependent WE are on the Savior and how our love for Him guides our choices throughout the day.
Help your daughters form good habits NOW for their spiritual lives, including personal Bible study, prayer, and worship. These are the seeds of greatest value. What a blessing it would be if they reached college or marriage with an existing habit of rising early to study God’s Word and pray, seeking time alone with their Savior before the busyness of the day crowds in! And these seeds of Bible study, prayer, and worship will only help prepare the ground for the other seeds sown in your daughters’ lives, as they are transformed by the power of God’s Word.
In the next few blog entries, we will take a deeper look at a few of these other seeds that must be sown in the lives of our daughters.
