For most of my career I have printed my photographs using alternative printmaking techniques: Gum Bichromate, Cyanotype, Kallitype, and Platinotype, among others. For ten years I worked almost exclusively with the Screen Printing Process, making very fine tonal separations of my photographs and then reassembling them using colored inks. Then in 1991 I had the opportunity to study the basics of Photogravure etching. I was enthralled with the technique. Both the rendering of the image and the beauty of the object itself captivated me from the start. From that day until the present I have printed my photographs solely as photogravures.
This presentation of my work is comprised of eight slideshows: the first is a survey of my work in photogravure; the remainder are presentations of the various projects I have undertaken.
Following the slideshows is an explanation of the gravure process and some personal statements on the work done.
