The workshop text said: “Jazz: a printmaking workshop based on the famous 1947 book by Matisse”. So, we printed a book. We printed it 6 times, and we each (almost) got a copy to bring home. And now, we all understand a bit better what the printer’s job is about, and we can recognise Matisse’s pages from a mile away! And the book really folded, but that’s another story...June ’08. A Matisse Print Experience
We start inking the plates .
We align the pieces on the bed of the press.
Checking the design to follow.
Each individually inked piece has its own place.
It’s like a puzzle, finding a place for each piece.
Last pieces are layed down
OK, ready to print.
We all trun the wheel of the press.
Et voilà! Uncovering the print.
Checking the print
OK, back to work. We’ve got another 5 to print!
The concentration was high for 3 hours!
