"Hearts and Roses"
A Valentine's Day design from Dawson List of Ice Dragon in Albuquerque, NM
The roses petals are done with a die grinder. This piece is designed to be done from a half-block of ice, so it's suggested that a wider base be fused to the bottom as shown for additional stability.
(In 1996, I still lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I didn’t move to New Orleans until 1998.)

The side view of this design is pretty poorly done and was only intended to give rough shapes and illustrate that the sculpture can be carved from a five inch slab as long as a base is added. I’ve used this design many times for weddings and it’s also worked well for Mother’s Day brunch and for Valentine’s Day. It actually was a coincidence that I picked this design for my February 14th blog entry. I just needed a design and picked it without knowing which date it was for. Strange how things work sometimes...
