The Institute's efforts are coordinated by psychiatrist, author, and futurist Charles M. Johnston, MD and the larger portion of its work is drawn from his thinking.   Dr. Johnston is originator of Creative Systems Theory, a comprehensive framework for understanding change and interrelationship in living systems with special pertinence to making sense of the times in which we live.  He is also author of two books, The Creative Imperative: Human Growth and Planetary Evolution, and Necessary Wisdom:  Meeting the Challenge of a New Cultural Maturity.   A introduction to the thinking of Creative Systems Theory can be found at the CST website (CSTHome.org).  An introduction to the concept of Cultural Maturity, CST’s frame for making sense of the times in which we live, can be found at the Cultural Maturity web site (CulturalMaturity.org).

ICD Press is in its very early stages of development.   Its purpose is to help support the greater maturity of thought and action that will be required for a healthy human future.  Most of its efforts to this point have involved the specific thinking of Charles Johnston.  But our hope long term is to serve as trusted resource for writing that reflects that needed greater maturity of thought and action more generally.

This site describes resources available through ICD Press.  It also includes a brief “preview of coming attractions” description of Dr. Johnston’s upcoming new book, Hope and the Future: Understanding the New Creativity and Maturity on which the Future Depends.

ICD PRESS
This the website for ICD Press, the publishing arm of the Institute for Creative Development.  The Institute for Creative Development is a non-profit, non-partisan think tank and center for advanced leadership training dedicated to clarifying and supporting the kind of understanding and leadership a vital future will require.  From 1984 through 2002 it existed as a Seattle-based "bricks and mortar" institution.  Today its work is web-based and worldwide.  (The Institute's home website can be found at www.creativesystems.org.)
