Windows into the soul
New treatments of space

From the Museum School in Boston to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, artist Joanne DeMartino has made the decision to fully commit her future into her own hands. And our response to that clarity becomes one not only of recognition, but that of discovery. With successful results, DeMartino’s ‘Window series’ illustrate tiny vignettes of her own preserved memories which gracefully manipulate her canvas and seem to go far beyond themselves, offering us a glimpse into her unique universe where fantasy and reality coexist. In this series, DeMartino favors a large scale canvas which lends itself to a sort of subtle yet penetrating accessibility through the very windows of her soul. Painting, she says, “ is a life-long journey of exploring images that clarify and define my life.”
