Pinot Evil Pinot Noir: 74 Points

This pinot noir comes from France, which some might find as a surprise given their popularity among wineries in central-southern California.  In fact, sometimes we think pinot noir is a small town just north of Santa Barbara.  I couldn’t find a vintage on the bottle so I can’t tell you the year (the fact there isn’t a vintage seems a little odd).  Anyway, I am glad this bottle was a gift, because if I had spent much on it I would have been disappointed.  Overall, the wine is lacking in body and complexity.  The strong aromas of cherry are nice and the ending is smooth, but overall it left me wanting to taste more in my mouth.  It wasn’t awful by any means, nor was it really good, or even very good for that matter; it was just pretty decent, or with my scale a score of 74.

I don’t know the price, but if it was say, $5, then it would be a good steal, if it was $10 then you can probably find something better like Mark West Pinot Noir.

Just for fun, I would give the label a rating of 6.5, the monkeys are cute, but a little hard to see.  They correspond to “see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil”.  They claim this wine is a guilty pleasure.
Lacking in body, but strong cherry aromas and finish are nice. I don’t know the price so I can’t give it an overall value.
