Boat Projects and Equipment

One of the less onerous tasks for a boat owner is ‘boat projects’. These differ from boat maintenance and boat repair in that (if all goes to plan) the end result is an improvement to life onboard (and hopefully it isn’t due again in 150 hours of engine running). Boat projects are not trivial, they can take anything from 10-100 hours of work and involve numerous trips to chandleries, hardware stores, online stores and, most importantly, extensive discussions with your partner, friends and anyone on the dock (usually accompanied with brownish sparkling beverage).

The first projects I have documented are:

  1. Solar Panel Installation

  2. Chartplotter, original installation and remote monitor addition

  3. NMEA2000 bus upgrade (from NMEA0183)

  4. Forward Looking Sonar

  5. Fridge Insulation Project - getting ready for the tropics

  6. Cushion covers for the cabin

  7. Fresh Water System Reconfiguration Project - move the pump

  8. Liferaft Servicing (not really a project....)

  9. Various boatwork pictures whilst readying the boat in Seattle

  10. More 2006 boatwork pictures whilst heading down the pacific

  11. 2007 Boatwork pictures

  12. A few 2008 boatwork pictures

Also, check out Tom’s equipment page for some projects undertaken before we bought the boat (they are much more ambitious).
