McCall Design & Planning is based in scenic McCall, Idaho and has been providing architectural services since 1978. We endeavor to satisfy the programatic needs and desires of the clients, while responding to challenging sites across the Northwest and interior Mountain West. Our goal is to design structures that weather in harmony with extreme climatic conditions and provide durable architectural responses to both the social and environmental fabric of their surroundings. Our design solutions employ the tasteful use of practical building techniques while composing a well- orchestrated form that is attractive, structurally significant and thoughtfully detailed. We enjoy projects based in the architectural traditions of the west as well as contemporary responses to the idea of home and seek environmentally responsible choices in materials and design. We pride ourselves on creating clear, comprehensive construction drawings for optimally cost effective and quality solutions.


The bulk of McCall Designs’ work is in the surrounding area, however,  we regularly have projects in Boise, 100 miles to the south and have worked in the Cascades, Western Montana and assisted with the remodel of a London flat and South African residence. We primarily work in the single-family residential market but also have experience with hotel and light commercial projects.  Additionally, we provide services for site and architectural development of multi-family residential projects, encouraging a “value-added” approach that favors preservation of the natural features on site.

Architect Andrew Laidlaw has been practicing in this community since 1982, recently forming a partnership with 2 employees. Luke Vannoy and Heather Susemihl look forward to continuing to practice in this community and the Northwest Region.

Andrew Laidlaw began with McCall Design & Planning in 1981. He holds a Masters in Architecture from the University of Oregon and a BA in English from Syracuse University. 

Heather Susemihl started with MDPI in 2003, after finishing her Masters in Architecture at the University of Idaho.  She has a  background in the visual arts, earning a Fine Arts degree from Spokane Falls Community College in 1997. Heather received her architecture license in 2009.

Luke Vannoy graduated in 2002 with a Masters of Architecture from the University of Idaho and began working with McCall Design in 2003 after practicing in Boise. He has experience in commercial and residential architecture.  Luke received his architectural license in 2008.

As a design team, we are dedicated and enthusiastic about finding creative solutions, founded in experience, for every project we encounter.
