The Making of Harmonious Moment

Harmonious Moment was constructed between April and December,
2005, and is one of my most ambitious works. The following collection of photos documents some of the innumerable steps from the beginning of construction to the final installation. I hope you find the process as interesting and exciting as I did. To visit my main website, Hal Slovic’s

Construction begins using a tool called a “trimmer,” which was used to make a 5 mm grove both around the circumference of the circle and also along each of the four straight edges.
The purpose of the grooves is to allow for the insertion of pieces of translucent plastic to make a ring around the circle, and to make the four sides of an enclosed box.
