...Our Friend Bruce Gordon

I first got to know Bruce through my association with the Magic Castle.  The first time I met him, I was at the Castle, running a VCR for a presentation by Dick Sherman.  It was there I met Bruce, and his collaborator, Dave Mumford.  Knowing that Bruce was an “Imagineer”, I asked if he was agreeable to do a stint as a guest lecturer for my class at USC.  He grumbled a bit, but he said he would “think about it”.  He then discovered that I had taken my class to the set of “West Wing”.  For the next six years, Bruce was a student for a day every semester.  Bruce loved West Wing...among a million other things.  The Sherman Brothers, all things Disney, all things Apple Computer, old TV shows, robots, Room-bas, Segways and every gadget known to mankind.  His house could have been transported to any space station, and the space station residents would have been envious.  If Bruce wanted it, Bruce owned it.

Bruce started coming to Magic Castle Friday “Member Lunches” at Dick’s invitation, and soon Bruce became an integral part of the ongoing projects evolving into a valued contributor.  He became a video editor, sound editor, story editor and he earned the moniker Dr No.  An on occasion when his gruffness proved inspired, he was lauded with the name of Dr. Know.

Our Life With Bruce

I, Joe Hoffman took these pictures with the idea that someday Bruce would turn these into a book of some sort, recounting our time together.  I never dreamed they would be used as tribute or memorial.
