Soccer Team Does Well On the Field, Good Off the Field

As the Panther Creek soccer team wraps up a phenomenal second season, it’s important to look back and recognize them for one of their most admirable achievements to date. On August 18th 2007, the program held a fundraiser that would not only benefit the teams, but would benefit those in need. The soccer program chose to support the American Cancer Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping families fighting cancer. In order to do this, Panther Creek hosted a soccer tournament, in which teams would get people to pledge money, much like a relay. Six local schools participated—Cardinal Gibbons, Durham Jordan, Green Hope, Millbrook, Panther Creek, and Wakefield.

The idea was a success. Panther Creek was able to raise $4640 for the society, and $4450 for the athletic program. On September 25th, before the varsity game began, the team formally presented the check to a representative from the American Cancer Society. Two players, Chris Herd and Palmer Primm were recognized for their hard work. They each had approximately twenty donors and together raised two thousand dollars.
