No Excuses

I really don’t have any good reasons for why I’ve neglected our blog for so long. The best that I can come up with is that my house is so trashed that I feel guilty sitting and playing on the computer when there’s so much else I should be doing. The reason that doesn’t really work, though, is that I still spend way too much time on the computer and my house doesn’t seem to be getting any cleaner.  In fact the only good reasons that I can come up with are laziness, tiredness and busyness, laziness probably taking the number one spot. Sigh! But now I’m vowing to do better (mainly because Tim is threatening to cancel my web-hosting subscription) so plan on many blog entries to come!

And now I figure it’s time to do one big catch-up post on the past two and a half months.  So here’s some of what has caused the “busyness” factor to be in effect. (Thank goodness I’ve taken a few pictures to help jog my memory!)

1. Sickness. Nothing too crazy, though, just your run-of-the-mill colds and stuff. In fact, this has been our best winter since we moved here as far any of us getting sick. I really just added it so that I could include this picture of Barrett. This is what happens when a three-year-old who refuses to nap continues to refuse even though he’s sick.

Of course I took my mom’s advice and just threw a blanket over him! (And props to his preschool teachers who gave him that adorable blanket for Christmas.)

2. Playhouse Disney Live.  At the end of January, I took Barrett to see all of his favorite Disney shows in person at the Energy Solutions Arena.  We had so much fun together and he was hilarious. He wasn’t quite sure what to make of the whole thing but by the end he was really getting into it. The lowlight of the trip for me was when we went to the snack bar for something to eat. He crawled around on the floor eating as much popcorn as he could find while I frantically ordered our own and begged him to wait until I had one for him. It was definitely one of those proud parent moments.  Here he is lounging in his chair and waiting for the show to start.

3. Snow shoveling. Tim oh-so-conveniently broke his ribs at some point in January, leaving a large part of the winter snow shoveling to me this year. Luckily, my sister Jodee has tried to convince me that shoveling snow is really a lot of fun and great exercise. I’m not totally sold but it helped me have a better attitude during my hours outside with the shovel. And by February Tim was back into the swing of things although I still did quite a bit of shoveling  before he could get home from work. Jodee, I guess you did rub off a little bit.

These pictures are of Tim and Barrett during one of the last storms we had. Barrett would spend his life outside in the snow if we’d let him.

At one point, Barrett decided to hold court on the driveway with a couple of Christmas trees and his beach chair.

4. Superbowl Mania. Living with the biggest Steelers fan in the world during the playoffs isn’t easy. And when they make it to the Superbowl, chaos ensues.  Sadly, I don’t have any pictures of our Superbowl party but suffice it to say, the food was good and Tim was pretty pleased with the outcome (as well as with the exciting game - so much so, he insists on watching it replayed over and over and over again. If someone can explain this phenomenon to me in a way that makes sense, please do so. I mean come on, we know who is going to win.) Anyway, here he is watching the final game before the Superbowl. Don’t even try having a conversation with him!

5. Air Force Museum. We’ve been to the local air force museum about a bazillion times, but it was only in February that we figured out that they have a whole children’s section full of toys, flight simulators and pilot uniforms. It’s only open on Thursdays and Saturdays, two days we’ve apparently never been until now. Anyway, the kids had the time of their life. Barrett is already obsessed with movies about fighter jets (thanks Grandpa!) and now if you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up, he throws his arms in the air and yells out “fighter pilot!”  (This is a marked improvement over when he told me a few weeks ago that he was going to be a mommy and a princess.)

I’ve got a few more of my favorite pictures of the past few months but this post is long enough so I’ll post those next time! (Which will be soon. Really.)
