This year Halloween was a full week of various festivities. Now that I have children, I have to admit that it’s becoming one of my favorite holidays. I don’t really like all of the scary stuff but there’s something so magical about all of these kids who get to dress up and be something that they really want to be for a day.
Our week started off last Saturday with an adult Halloween party at our neighbors house. Tim and I aren’t usually ones to dress up but we had a blast. They had made a really scary haunted house in their basement that rivals any that I’ve paid to see (although I haven’t seen many - I’m a huge wimp and I really don’t like them.) And after having to convince Tim to dress up, my real fear is that we’re going to be seeing a lot of this costume.
On the Wednesday before Halloween, Barrett’s preschool class had a Halloween program that was so much fun. From what I could tell, he didn’t actually sing one word of one song but he sat up front with the other kids for almost the whole thing so we consider it a success. It was in his teacher’s front yard and we were afraid he’d be running to get into things the whole time. His teacher lives on a small farm so there are a lot of tools, tractors and animals to distract (it also offers a lot of fun opportunities for the kids.)
Yes, he really is about a foot shorter than all the girls in class.
This is the view we had of him for a good portion of the program.
Barrett loves his teachers, Miss Lisa and Miss Shaun.
The highlight of the day for Barrett was the fun bucket each kid got with a flashlight, coloring book, crayons, small gumball machine, etc.
That night was our ward’s trunk-or-treat and chili cook-off. Barrett got so much candy we still don’t know what to do with it all.
The costume parade was so much fun to watch!
The night before Halloween we carved/decorated our pumpkins. This is serious business for Barrett!
For some reason, Barrett decided that measuring spoons would be a good way to clean the insides.
Carrying the pumpkins outside is always a big production.
And finally, the main event. Halloween night Tim took the kids around the neighborhood while I stayed home to hand out candy. This area is pretty spread out and rural in some areas but our neighbors across the street always have a big set-up with heaters and a big fire, hay bales, pumpkins, donuts and hot chocolate that seems to bring everyone over to this area. Even though there was some light rain on and off throughout the night, the weather was in the 60s and really nice. Perfect for some trick-or-treating!
Charlotte was a lamb, even though she looks like a little dog in this picture.
Heading out!
