in somebody else’s yard. That has definitely been the case in the year and a half that we’ve lived here, since we have had nothing but weeds growing in our yard. But that’s all about to change. We’re finally working on getting a yard! (I have to say in our defense, the reason we didn’t immediately put a yard in when we moved here is because we didn’t have sidewalks until last Fall. It’s a long story about our house being built during phase 1 of the neighborhood when the lot wasn’t slated for development until phase 2. They ended up having to tear out part of our driveway as well and everything was finished about a week before the first snowstorm.) Anyway, we’ve finally got everything started although I’m afraid we’ll probably end up going all summer again without grass for Barrett and Charlotte to play on.
We ended up bringing 19 dump truck loads of dirt onto our quarter acre. Seriously, I don’t know what they did to this lot when they built the house but most of our neighbors have needed 3-9 truckloads. So as a way to save money, we decided to do sprinklers by ourselves. Luckily I have an amazing family who has done more than their share of helping. We started on Saturday and truly believed it was going to be a one day project. Ha! Ha ha ha ha ha!! We didn’t get even half way done. So Tim is now spending his evenings (along with my dad last night!) laying and cutting pipe. It’s going to be a long process but at least there’s an end in sight. I’m sure someday we won’t even remember what it was like to live in the dirt and weeds. And in the meantime, Barrett is having the time of his life with all of the “big trucks,” “tractors” and “loud tools” that have been in our yard.
