After two and a half years of dealing with Barrett’s reflux, today we finally took him to a pediatric GI doctor (or as Barrett calls him, Dr. Spit-Up.) Although there weren’t any huge revelations, it was pretty comforting to know that he most likely has nothing more than reflux combined with a strong gag reflex. There’s not much that they can do for him at this point and the tests they’d have to do to determine if he needs surgery sound pretty horrific so we’re just going to wait it out for now.
But the really exciting news of the day is that he’s growing. The reflux has never been an issue with his growth but he’s always hovered right around the third percentile. This has kept me up at night worrying about the potential for him to be stuffed in lockers and things like that. I’ve already recruited many of your children to fill the future bodyguard role. But today he was in the 20-25th percentile! Now I know that’s not exactly L.A. Laker material, but he may actually end up taller than some of the girls he’ll want to date. So, combined with my previous news about Charlotte, I think I’ll get a pretty good nights sleep tonight.
