In November of 2006, I went to Italy for the third time. Each time I go, I learn more and more about this wonderful and amazing country. Italy is an interesting place because each region and sometimes each city is vastly different, yet they still somehow all retain that unique mix of food, culture, and mystery that is uniquely Italian.
In all of Italy, it is Venice I love most. Venice is an impossible place; a city on a foundation of water! It seems to float as a mirage as you approach it by train. The experience of walking the city is at once delightful and disorientating. Bridges sometimes have steps, some stairs lead nowhere, passages are narrow and often crowded with people, suddenly squares, or campos, open up out of nowhere, then plunge you into narrow passageways again. -There are no cars, no scooters, and the only motors are from the boats that pass beneath you as you cross the canals. The homes are Gothic and massive, the art imposing, the churches ancient, and each moment is imbued with life and mystique. Venice is an impossibly beautiful place.
