Lights! Camera! Distress Remedy! For those of you unfamiliar with flower essences, this is one remedy that should be in everyone’s natural medicine chest. Sold as Distress Remedy by Nature’s Sunshine or Rescue Remedy by Nelson-Bach this simple yet powerful little gem is perfect for a minor crisis or stressful situation. It works quickly and to my knowledge, there are no side effects or contraindications.
I tend to talk fast naturally, even faster if I am nervous or excited. For my first television appearance I was both. I was also apprehensive on how I would fair physically under the bright lights. But with a little help from my flowery friend as well as some “fire quenching” chinese herbs, I did okay. It’s Thursday, June 15th and we’re in Rocky Mount, NC, where I was invited to appear live on Nature’s Health, WHIG-TV, Channel 17 (Sudden link Cable, Rocky Mount, NC) and Channel 19 (Time Warner Cable, Tarboro, NC) The show will be rebroadcast on Monday, June 18th at 4pm. I had a fantastic time bantering back and forth with host Claiborne Holtzman about the hottest trends in eco-conscious, healthy and whole living as well as being able to promote The Health Chic Guide: Hip, Fun & Delicious Living.
On Friday, I spent the day signing books at Remedy This, Naturally, a health food store in Rocky Mount. The store carries supplements, natural body care, local meats and an assortment of health foods. It is also home to a custom Aromatherapy Blending Bar where you can get everything from a personalized bath salt blend to a therapeutic skin cream. The store staff is friendly and well-educated.
On Saturday we headed to Advance, NC, just outside of Winston-Salem. That night we explored the newly renovated Downtown Arts District, enjoying live outside entertainment. We had a great cup of tea at The Bubbling Well Tea & Tonic Bar while listening to a drumming class. Afterwards we headed over to The Werehouse/Frankie’s Coffeeshop, a late night hotspot for underground music, art and community. We had a fresh bagel smeared with local goat cheese. The local farmer’s market meets across the street on Saturdays.
Sunday and Monday we did laundry and caught up on some work. Tuesday we headed to Lenoir, NC where we had tea and coffee downtown and visited the second oldest hardware store in the world and then went over to Bo’s for five games of nonstop bowling fun.
Thursday we headed to Asheville, NC and stopped in at the Haywood Co-op for supplies. We couldn’t find parking anywhere so we headed to our campground in Waynesville to park The Health Chic Mobile. We returned to Asheville that evening to visit Malaprops Bookstore & Cafe and buy local beer at Bruisin’ Ales. We also picked up more supplies at Earth Fare.
