Start with two beautiful, brainy blondes, add equal scoops of animal rights activism, concern for the environment and compassion for the human race- sift softly with a bit of journalistic skepticism and finish with a dash of humor. Let bake in the sun for one hour and there you have it- the hottest new show on talk radio, The Girls Gone Green!
It’s fast-paced, full of wit and pulls no punches. These girls aren’t afraid to tell you what’s on their mind. I was a recent guest on their show and can tell you that the energy inside the studio was just as magnetic as listening to them on the radio. So of course, in true Health Chic style, I wanted the behind-the-scenes scoop.
It started out when Julie Watkins began talking about doing a radio show with her friends. She was working in meteorology and felt that her life was on pause. There was so much passion bottled up inside her and she just wanted to talk about it. One day she mentioned the show idea to pal Courtney, who simply said “let’s do it” and that’s all that was needed to set this dynamic duo in motion.
It didn’t take long before the girls had a show and we’re ready to go live. Returning from an animal rights convention and smack dab in the middle of the Michael Vick controversy, their first show was full of emotion and adrenaline. Julie admits that they were both very nervous and probably needed to learn how to deal with differing opinions a bit better.
But, oh, how she loved having the microphone! Not one to shy away from controversy, she intends to bring a wide variety of topics to the show, convinced that it’s good to make people feel uncomfortable once in awhile considering the billions that are suffering. Her goal is to change one person at a time and to reach as many people as they can.
So check them out Saturdays, 11am-12pm, 1190 WAMT.
