Indian Culture Association
of the University of Texas Pan-American

Welcome to the PanamICA!
The mission of the Indian Culture Association is to foster an understanding about Indian culture at the University of Texas - Pan American.  We are here to provide support to those Indian students who are new to the university and our goal is to help them get oriented to their new life in the Valley and the United States. Being so far away from home can be hard, so the ICA hosts special events like festivals, food tasting, dances, movie nights, and educational workshops to keep the culture of India alive and well at UTPA.  The Valley is a melting pot of all kinds of cultures: Anglo, Hispanic, African-American as well as Indian. The ICA believes that the culture of India is an important part of the heritage that makes up the Rio Grande Valley.

But the ICA is not just for students of Indian descent, people of all cultures are invited to join, the only requirement is an interest in Indian heritage and an open mind.

We hope that you will join our organization and take in all the exciting things we have to offer. For more about joining the ICA, meeting the officers, events and a picture gallery feel free to browse the links provided. We hope to see you soon!

The culture of the Indian subcontinent has been evolving for longer than any other culture on the planet. The pictures to the left capture the three richest aspects of Indian culture: music, history, and food.
Ravi Shankar, on the top left, is a world-renowned musician most famous for his work with the sitar and Indian tabla. The Taj Mahal, right, has become a symbol of India’s prominent past and has attracted millions of tourists from around the world to India. On the bottom left are samosas, a deep-fried favorite of Indians and non-Indians alike.
