We are leaving Athens now, beginning our 12-day cruise around the Mediterranean and Black Seas. So far, here is an abbreviated versions of my e-mail updates to family.
Yesterday in Athens was a Holiday (May 1) and NOTHING was open except the tram to the top of the tallest hill in town. So, we had to walk to the foot of the hill, up over 200 steps! Then catch the funicular up the hill. Clouds were coming in, so our pictures are hazy.
Today, we took a city tour of Athens. Actually only three stops, but the last one was the Acropolis. That were a lot of steps, too, but it was a beautiful day, not too hot. Dan took movies and I took pictures.

Yesterday, we got up after noon, walked around the city, past the Parliament, saw the changing of the Greek guard. Then went out on a dinner tour/Athens after dark. Lots of Greek music and dancing. Today is May 1, a Holiday. Nothing open. We are going to climb up a nearby hill to get lots of pictures of the city.

During our 8 hour layover yesterday in Heathrow (in the First Class Lounge) Dan and I both had a shower and a free massage. We also had dinner. I took a nap. It wasn't a bad way to spend the day.
The flight to Athens got us in here at 2:30 AM. To the hotel about 3:30 AM. Needless to say, we slept until after noon. Now we are getting ready to see what there is to see here in Athens. But it is rainy, so probably won't go too far today. This is our R&R day.

We are in the Heathrow British Air Club World Lounge. We spent 7 hours until our flight leaves for Athens.
It was a 9 hour flight from Phoenix to London. First Class was very nice. Not quite what I thought it would be, but the seats were very comfortable, and we slept flat.
