Theory Of Resolution
Theory Of Resolution
I went to church with Darwin, we sat in the same pew.
He kept his eyes fixed on the cross and sang when he had to.
The pastor gave his sermon, and finished with a grin.
He led us all in one last prayer, and even Darwin said, "Amen."
A woman played the closing hymn, but Darwin didn't sing.
I glanced at him as the organ died and he was whispering.
He stared down at his feet after the pastor said goodbye,
Then Darwin closed his eyes, and I think I heard him sigh.
We all got up and went outside and chatted in the sun.
But Darwin sat where he had been, and soon was the last one.
I went back in to ask him if he needed a ride home,
I barely heard him mutter that he would just like to be alone.
I went to war with Bhudda, we rode in the same tank.
He kept his eyes fixed on the field though his heart had clearly sank.
Shells exploded all around, but Bhudda didn't blink,
The corporal wildly turned and smiled, and gave us all a wink.
Our guns were locked, our target clear, and the corporal hollered, "Fire!"
Bhudda's finger hesitated, but the corporal's voice boomed higher.
Closing his eyes he squeezed the trigger, then peeked to check its path.
The smoke and dust soon cleared and then we saw the aftermath.
In the crater we had made, five men lay in blood and dirt,
A sixth crawled out and pulled with him a seventh who was hurt.
The corporal cheered and left the tank to slay the wounded men,
While Bhudda wondered if his heart could ever shine again.
I went to sea with Jesus, we sailed on the same ship.
He kept his eyes fixed on the waves for most of the long trip.
We anchored near some islands that explorers nearly missed,
Then me and Jesus rowed ashore while the crew stayed back and fished.
We dragged the boat up on a beach and took a look around,
And Jesus quickly noticed a large turtle on the ground.
He walked over and kneeled down, and I saw his expression change,
As he stood and slowly turned, he realized everything was strange.
The cormorants couldn't fly and the iguanas all could swim.
Jesus saw they had no fear, and some even came to him.
Then he walked back to the shore and stared across the sea,
He scratched his head in disbelief and said, "These don't belong to me."
I went to Africa with Bill Gates, we flew on the same jet.
He kept his eyes fixed on The Hawk Road while surfing on the net.
When we landed I got up to leave, but Bill stayed in his seat.
He said this was just a stop-over, that he was flying on to Crete.
He said his private jet was broke, so he had to sacrifice,
Six hours of his luxury for six not quite so nice.
Bill pointed out the window at some people standing there,
He said, "I sure feel sorry for them," but it was clear he didn't care.
I stopped to watch his plane take off and disappear from sight,
I sighed and mumbled, "Bill, you just don't know what it's like."
