Creative Cities is a documentary that takes three vibrant and
international art scenes as the vantage point from which to
look at cities with emergent economies that have been
dramatically impacted by recent and intense processes of
globalization. Cities like Beijing, Delhi, and Mexico City have
developed cosmopolitan artistic elites at the same time as
uneven capitalist development has created a panorama
of contrasts – sometimes rich, sometimes jarring.
How fertile are such contrasts for the artistic imagination?
How transnational are universal values?
Artworks will guide us through cities while key actors of each
art scene and their work will reveal cultural specificities that
will stimulate our curiosity and challenge our understanding
of modernity, democracy and globality.
