Thanks to the New York State Music Fund, Time Warner Cable, and WAER Jazz88, the YCCA has engaged in a very unique and ambitious recording project. There will be 3 finished products. First, the YCCA students have completed a recording of contemporary jazz tunes that are commonplace in our performances. We decided to put two of Leroy Jones’ tunes on this one, because Leroy is a special friend to the YMCA; he was our first artist, five years ago, and helped us get our start. Second the group will record a special New Orleans tribute CD, that will feature an array of special guests including Leroy Jones, Doreen Ketchens and Topsy Chapman. Third, the Y kids will work with national recording artists, including a few Grammy winners, on a recording where the students will provide the instrumentals and the featured artists will lend vocals and/or solos. Look for the release later this Fall.

YCCA Releases first CD “Mission Driven”. This, the first recording of the program, features New Orleans trumpeter Leroy Jones on two cuts. It is getting airplay on WAER radio and is on sale at the Rome and Oneida YMCAs and will be available soon on CD Baby, Myspace, and iTunes for $15.
