TomTom GO700 Internal Drive Change
TomTom GO700 Internal Drive Change
Photos taken while changing the internal drive from a 2.5GB Seagate microdrive to an 8Gb Transcend solid state Compact Flash card.
Credit for the method goes to “mogolf” and “artful” who posted the details on www.yournav.com. The full thread is here.
Before you start this procedure, make a backup of all the files from the GO to a new folder on your own computer. Use a direct copy with Windows Explorer or drag and drop on a Mac. Backup takes around 8 minutes with a USB 2.0 connection (about 1 hour if you have USB 1.1). You will need this backup to copy to your new card.
DO NOT USE TOMTOM HOME FOR THE BACKUP. It may not recognise the new drive. it will overwrite any other backup made by TT Home.
Once you have completed the change. Connect your GO700 to the computer again and copy all the contents of the backup folder to the GO. It will appear as a removable drive with the name of the card set by the manufacturer. It will not be called TomTom, or whatever you your original was called. If you like, you can do the install with a card reader before you put it into the body of the GO. BUT do not expect to make the backup from the microdrive in the same way. The microdrive needs power and most card readers do not provide this.
