5 Try-out Tips For Select Participant Parents
1) Help your son relax before the try-out, arriving early so he can warm up and settle into the environment. You do not want him to feel rushed by arriving right before the session starts. Give him confidence by sharing a smile and being positive, encouraging him to listen, give great effort and have a positive attitude.
2) Once the tryout begins, please refrain from talking with your son during the session. This is his try-out, not yours. As a parent, you must release him to the activity. He should only hear the coach’s voice in the gym.
3) Your son should not be looking over at you for approval. If he often does, then you are a distraction. Talk to him ahead of time about this.
4)Your son should wear a white shirt. Balls provided for 5th & 6th graders. No food or beverages are allowed in the gym.
5)On the ride home, just let him know how proud you are of his effort, and how much you enjoy watching him play. Do not evaluate his play. Leave that for a different time unless HE wants to talk about it.
