Guilderhaven, inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was incorporated in 2001 to help the animal community. We provide food, financial assistance, transportation, and medical intervention for New York residents and their companion animals. We also assist rescue groups and organizations in this endeavor, with an emphasis on our local community. In 2011 we facilitated the spay/neuter of 504 cats! Along with the Cat Care Coalition (CCC), we started a low cost dog spay/neuter clinic in May 2009. As a result, we were able to spay/neuter 205 dogs in 2011! In addition, we have helped place animals from private homes, rescue groups, and animal shelters, spoken to school groups, youth organizations, and church groups, and produced an educational coloring booklet. This booklet emphasizes the importance of responsible pet guardianship and humane behavior toward animals.
We expanded our program in 2010 and with the help of a $2500 grant from the Doris Day Foundation and a $250 grant from Price Chopper in 2011, have been assisting PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support) of the Albany Damien Center! We are continuing our goal this year with the additional help of a $10,000 grant from the Wright Family Foundation, by becoming an asset to PAWS in providing spay/neuter and additional veterinary services for their clients' pets. Through these actions we hope to assist PAWS in their mission of "improving the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS by maintaining the love and companionship of pets and their owners when they need each other most".
