Shaka is the Hawaiian hand sign/word for "Hang Loose", "Be Cool", "How's it Bra" and many other nice meanings. Neko is Japanese for Cat. Together they make up "Shaka Neko", the coolest cat to hit Hawaii. Shaka Neko is the Hawaiian version of Meneki Neko, the Japanese Cat of good fortune and the Han Good Luck Cat of China. Legend tells of a cat who lived in a broken down temple in the forest. One stormy night the cat beckoned to a traveler standing beneath a nearby tree, to take shelter within the old temple. When the traveler reached the cat a huge bolt of lightning struck the tree where the traveler had been moments before. The cat had saved his life! Of course the man turned out to be a powerful ruler traveling alone and was so grateful he adopted the cat, rebuilt the temple and lived happily ever after.
