Darkon is a documentary concerning hundreds of normal, working Americans who spend their weekends dressing up in costumes, heading into the wilderness and beating the living shit out of one another for imaginary power, money and land.
In short, it is awesome.
Though I’ve never been a fan of cosplay myself, the world presented in the film is as enthralling as any outside Middle Earth. The stay at home father moonlighting as the leader of a rebel alliance, the corporate middle-man who spends his weekends as an imperialistic emperor, the student/starbucks barista who knows his only chance at a girl exists within role-playing.
They’re not us but they’re us.
Darkon is now available on DVD.
