Today we went to a bike shop for last minute items and spent the day getting our bikes ready to go for the first day of riding tomorrow. At 2 p.m. we had an orientation meeting, met everyone and got our tour jerseys (back of shirt pictured above). The motto is, “Serious miles, serious fun.” Jerseys are important - I will admit that I have done whole tours just to get the tour jersey! We also got nifty t-shirts and a water bottle.
At 68, I am the second oldest (by 5 months). Several women are in their ‘60s. Several are doing this trip to celebrate their retirement or their 65th birthday. Many have ridden on other WomanTours tours, including several who have crossed the country, either on the Southern Tier or the TransAmerica. Lots of experience in this group, but some less experienced folks as well.
Tonight we go to dinner together at a cajun restaurant.
Forgot to mention yesterday that I was surprised to see the Fleur de Lis everywhere - in wrought iron on the top of lamp posts, T-shirts, etc. Not only did the Acadians come here, but the area was a French territory at one time.
