Day 34: Stillwater to Cambridge, MN

58 miles today, close to half of it on a paved bike path called the Sunrise Prairie Trail. Where the trail ends there is an amazing ice cream shop with Breyer’s ice cream. Most of us ordered root beer floats. Yum!

It was hot. Other than that, folks, I can’t scrape up anything interesting to say. My hands are in bad shape again from the numerous descents of yesterday. Unless there is a miracle overnight, I may have to SAG tomorrow.

For those who asked, it is generally thought that SAG stands for Support and Gear. SAG service can mean different things on different tours. On our tour it means that our luggage is carried in a trailer and that there is a SAG vehicle (Lil’ Bo Peep), which carries water, snacks, first aide kit, our spare tires, and some tools. The SAG driver stops every 20 miles or so and waits until all riders have passed, then she tries to catch the fast riders for the next SAG stop. She can also be summoned by cellphone to come to our rescue if we have a problem we can’t resolve. SAG is also used as a verb as I have done in the last paragraph: “I may have to SAG tomorrow,” by which I meant I may have to ride in one of the vehicles instead of riding my bike.
