Gardening in Fargo

Living in the northern plains presents many challenges to the gardener. However, I am always astonished at the array of plants that survive our cold winters. Fargo lies on the east side of the state in the Red River Valley in what was once the ancient glacial Lake Agassiz. The rich black soil makes this region one of the most fertile agricultural land in the world. Although we have long cold winters, being in the north summers have very long days and plants thrive.
I have been growing vegetables since I was a small child. When I bought my home in Fargo, I finally had the opportunity to try my hand at growing perennials. I started my perennial beds in my back yard about 8 years ago and they have been slowly filling in. Last summer I tackled my front beds and put in many new plants. I have been documenting my garden as it has changed over the years. Please explore my photo galleries. Thanks for stopping by.
