The Modern Marist College Band was formed in 1986 under the baton of Arthur B. Himmelberger. With meager beginnings of two trumpets rehearsing in the College chapel, the Marist College Band organization now involves approximately 160 students performing in a variety of ensembles. The namesake and largest of these ensembles is the Marist College Band. The Marist College Band has one student membership that operates in two distinct functions. Members of the Marist College Band serve the college in an athletic support function as well as a full scale concert band.
Membership in this large ensemble entitles the student to also participate as a member of the Brass Ensemble, Low-Brass Choir, Flute Choir, Woodwind Ensemble, Woodwind Quintet, Wind Ensemble, and the Marist College Jazz Band known as the "Jazz Foxes." Other ensembles that flourish under the 'umbrella' of the Marist College Band include the Handbell Choir and Guitar Ensemble.
