That big hunk of rock over my right shoulder (your left) is Half Dome, and on our second trip to Yosemite we climbed all the way to the top. The trip took almost 12 hours and covered more than 15 miles with a vertical ascension of over 4,800 feet. It also included a precarious final climb that required the use of cables (the video of Tiff below doesn’t begin to do it justice). We saw plenty of bear in and around our campsite (seriously, park official were firing gunshots outside of our tent one night and screaming “GO BEAR!”).
