The only certainty of Vegas is this: You will arrive supercharged and full of optimism and leave feeling like you fell from the window of a three-story building. But you will always say you had fun. I have never had a bad time in Las Vegas. In fact I have never even had a good time in Las Vegas, it has always been great. As expected, this weekend’s Society for News Design conference at the Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas was no exception. Although I cannot remember all (most?) of the weekend’s events, I can tell you that nearly all of them occurred amongst some of the best people I know in the glittering smokey haze of the casino floor. I somehow managed to win $500 within the first 20 minutes, and then proceeded to piss away those winnings over the course of the next three days. In the end, I spent $0 (sans the 500 I won) for three days in Vegas. While Tiff and the gang (Tribble, Tball, the Fongs, Calabama and many others) were off learning at the conference’s many classes, I was sleeping off the previous night’s debauchery by the incredible multi-unit pool or watching movies at the IMax. The lavish pool-side parties of the conference, highlighted by excellent food and drinks, some choreographed dancing by Tiff and some freestyle by Kevin Wendt, usually had us pretty well lubed for nights lasting well past 4 a.m. A PG look at our weekend:

No pictures of me and only one of Tiff on the whole role. Probably a good thing. Until next time Vegas. -cmg
Apparently this is what happens

Chris made a bet on the game with our work buddy Eric Pinkela. Chris obviously lost about as badly as his team. He wore this mask during his entire eight hour shift Saturday and has quite a stink to show for it. Pinky says he wore the mask for Halloween a couple years ago. Sure he did.

In other news, I’m pretty excited about the Tar Heels 44-12 win against Rutgers on Thursday - even if Butch Davis won’t be my friend on facebook.

If only the Lions had a fierce ram

The weekend started wtih some bad football . . .

. . . And continued with some shitty football.

On Sunday, Berka and his roommate J.P. joined us in the Bay Area for some 49ers vs. Lions action - or lack of. We started the day with beers on the
10 a.m. train en route to Candlestick. We secured a tailgating spot right next to a portapotty (above). We drank our way through three hours of dumb vs. dumber. And we found our way to the Old Pro in Palo Alto for the late game. Some pix:

This fan ran faster than the Lions.

And the security team did too.
