Matt and Erin: The wedding
Posted Thursday, June 4, 2009

Tiff and I are back from a week of family, friends and celebration in Petoskey, Mich., where my brother Matthew married longtime sweetie Erin in a beautiful ceremony on Lake Michigan. The party (before and after) was pretty amazing too. Frankly the whole week was a blur to me, so I can’t imagine what the bride and groom are thinking right now as they relax in Costa Rica for their honeymoon, but I’ll try my best to summarize: There were hugs and beers, fog and tears, tacquitos and cheers. We watched Red Wings and sunsets, heard speeches and Oasis, spilled our hearts and our wine glasses. We had dance contests and we wore pants. But most of all we celebrated the romance of the guy and his gal.
Congrats to Matt and Erin!

Certainly one of the highlights that may have been missed by most of the guests was the dance contest between Tiff and Jon “GQ” Schwartz. A glimpse of this epic showdown (to be repeated at Jon and Julie’s wedding, 2010).

Special thanks to the parents of the bride and groom (especially to Mom, Dad, Katrina and the Rev.), and another round of congratulations to my brother and new sister. -cmg
Making the best of it

On August 1 we’re faced with the prospect of losing our jobs, or, if we’re lucky, commuting two hours a day for reduced wages. Now Tiff and I are the first to admit that we live a somewhat charmed lifestyle, but that August horizon casts a pretty long shadow that covers even the most optimistic soul. Still, we’re making the best of what will likely be our last summer in the South Bay and possibly our last in California.
We’re making sure we hit all our favorite spots: Mimosas at Bill’s; ribs at Henry’s; barbeque, baseball and the beer batter with the San Jose Giants; a stroll through the Japanese Garden.

In other good news: Thanks to our mangy cat for cursing the Red Wings.
