Happy early anniversary
Posted Wednesday, April 22, 2008
Since we’ll be on the plane for our actual anniversary next week, we’re doing a little celebrating this weekend. Tiff’s gift to me: 12 things (for our 12 months) we had to do this weekend. Among them: Play a game of foosball (which I won), drink a really good bottle of wine (2005 Turnbull Cab), try to learn a new language (Ni Hua means hello in Mandarin), jump in a fountain (we cheated and dipped our toes in the ocean) and do something we’ve never done before.

Walking across the Golden Gate bridge for the first time.

Watched kite surfing at a random beach between Half Moon Bay and
 Santa Cruz.

We also found our own little beach to sit and watch the waves.

So that was Monday. Today we went to the Tech museum where we designed our own roller coaster and watched an iMax movie. Tonight we’re going out for ribs and to party or commiserate with the rest of the Jose as it celebrates/mourns the Sharks (tonight is Game 7 of the first-round series with the Flames). -cmg

With our trip to China beginning on April 28, I thought it would be as good a time as any to put some time in and post our previous big trips. And so I have. You can now find picture pages for our trip to Italy in 2005, France and Amsterdam in 2006 and our honeymoon in Greece in 2007 using the “Trips “ link at the top of the page or in the column on the right. -cmg

Just saw an incredible movie and felt compelled to say something about it.

Self-described as a “modern musical” this film will resonate with anyone who enjoys acoustic guitar/has a soul. One of the truly great things about the Academy (and numerous film festivals that I’m not smart enough to pay attention to) is that it brings to light movies that I’m too stupid to pay attention to. Of course this movie will be most remembered for winning best song at the Oscars, and while the honoree is no “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp,” it’s certainly worth your five-dollar rental (or whatever the going rental rate is for non-Netflix people). I’ll send you a check if it’s not (though I will question your soul). It’s not going to change your life, but you’ll like it. It’s also worth checking out the film’s main character, also the lead singer of Irish band The Frames, pulling off this kick ass cover of the Pixies “Where is My Mind,” a song with its own movie history. - cmg

Rock chalk hangover

Ugghhhh ... We had way too much fun yesterday at Giants’ opening day and the Old Pro sports bar in Palo Alto with our friends Rook (a Kansas fan), Kelley (a fan of a Kansas fan) and Ashley (not a fan of the guys hitting on her at the bar). Rook, congrats. Roy Williams, go fuck yourself and your Kansas sweater.

After we drank this yard of beer ...

... things started to look like this.

Happy birthday Tiff!
Posted Thursday, April 3, 2008
So the weekend celebration o’Tiffany is over (her birthday was yesterday, April 2). We had a blast up in Seattle.

Tiff gets her totem on.

My obligatory photo in front of the market.

The needle.

Drinks at Shorty’s pinball bar. $2 beers. A dozen pinball machines and a hip Seattle crowd. The tables were made out of old pinball machines.

From the top of the needle.

Lunch at Olympic Park overlooking Elliot’s Bay and the Olympic mountains.

Baseball at Safeco.

I-CHI-RO! I-CHI-RO! (Pretty cool to hear a stadium cheer in unison)

A movie featuring Safeco’s roof during retraction and my dancing camera.

“The mountain was out” on our last morning. -cmghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuQvEOKZL2khttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wNUbavZqeAhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU22XOUKQfMhttp://www.thecubebehindme.blogspot.com/shapeimage_5_link_0shapeimage_5_link_1shapeimage_5_link_2shapeimage_5_link_3
