LOS ANGELES PAYS TRIBUTE TO MAKO IN CAGES!
Hundreds flocked to downtown Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo Aratani Theatre on Saturday, November 10th to attend the first ever public screening in the USA of CAGES in honor of the late Asian American pioneering actor, Mako.In addition to being in CAGES, Mako's 50-year career included a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award & Golden Globe nomination for THE SAND PEBBLES (1966) and a Tony Award nomination for his Broadway debut in PACIFIC OVERTURES (1976).
As a founding member of East West Players, he served as Artistic Director for 24 years.
The one-time event was presented by Perles Entertainment in association with the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center and East West Players.
Cages marked Mako’s last leading role in a feature film. The event attracted the likes of Hollywood celebrities, local political figures, and dedicated Mako fans within the Japanese American community to pay tribute to Mako’s last leg of work.
During a Q&A session following the screening, Director Graham Streeter announced that Director of Photography Mark Lapwood received a Bronze Award in the Feature Film Cinema category for CAGES at the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) New South Wales (NSW) 2007
Cages, distributed by Perles Entertainment, is the first of many films the distribution company plans to slowly unvail, making up a collection of socially responsible and heartwarming international films for 2008.
