Bike R100GS/PD

. . . my first pet dog as a child was called ‘Flash’ and when I found out the colour of the bike  ‘Flash Green

too me it was the obvious choice.

The bike originally came from Germany and I purchased it in the November of 2006, since then i have completed several modifications to improve the reliability and comfort.

The Drive shaft is considered to be a real weak spot on the Paralever BMW Twins, so the first modification was to fit an ‘Erich Demant’ driveshaft with replaceable heavy duty UJ’s and  grease nipples.

The failure prone Valeo starter motor was quickly replaced with a Nippondenso Starter from ‘Motorrad Elektrik’ originally intended for Toyota trucks and mated to a new casting to fit the BMW Twins.

Another area for concern is the charging system, so I invested in a complete charging system from Euro Moto Electrics, the Enduralast 450 alternator kit, this should provide enough power to keep my laptop and camera charged on the road.

The rear shock absorber is an all singing all dancing Ohlins. It has that many adjustments, i really don’t have a clue to the best set up till I have all my luggage aboard, although I did weigh the luggage and myself to get the right spring rate, the front springs have been replaced by progressive springs. Andy at Kais saved the day in getting me a heavy duty spring, the day before departure, Andy dialed it in with the panniers packed. the transformation too the handling of the machine was fantastic!

The Rear subframe has been strengthened to help with the additional weight.

The luggage consists of Panniers, Top box and Tank Panniers, the panniers and top box are own designed and fabricated locally.

Built for comfort, Touratech seat with sheepskin, hopefully this will provide many comfortable hours in the saddle.

I also made a perspex headlight protector, you just never know what will be thrown at you!

A great big THANKS to all the people who have helped me in the preparation of my Bike; Jim & Andy at Southport Superbikes, Alan at Holland St Motors, Andy for making my panniers & the guys at Vanden powder coatings, Paul & Steve at Knightsbridge Fabrications, Ste Openshaw for welding the rear subframe, Erich Demant (driveshaft and many other modifications), Liam and the guys at Manchester Hein Gericke, Mick Jackson, Andy at Kais & to anyone I might have missed! Sorry!
