This time of year, the Christmas spirit descends on Germany's cities and towns in the form of wooden stalls laden with pretzels, toys, souvenirs, tree decorations, gluhwein, and baked goods of all shapes and sizes. Across Germany there are hundreds of these outdoor Christmas markets which emphasize regional specialties, handcrafts, nativity displays and delectable treats. This tradition has migrated west to France but none can hold a candle to the elaborate Christmas markets in the Alsatian cities of Strasbourg and Colmar.
For a month, a half dozen markets are held around the historic center of this beautiful city with the largest in front of the magnificent Cathedral. You can enjoy browsing and shopping among the colorful stalls for souvenirs...
or noshing among tempting baked goods....
with a cup of hot mulled wine in hand,
One can also enjoy the sights and sounds of the attendant carnival-like atmosphere that accompanies these markets.
Bosco was not impressed by the market or wet weather and spent a good deal of time in his carrying bag.
However he did venture out on the streets, albeit incognito.
