I know that the real first day of spring comes at the end of March, but for me and many others the beginning of spring is when the Floralies takes place in Lauzerte. That’s when the streets are filled with all manner of flowers, plants, and herbs for sale, and it’s hard not to be seduced by the riot of colors and the enthusiasm of the area’s gardeners.
The theme of the Floralies this year was “Le Jardin dans nos Assiettes” which is why, I guess, the festival centerpeice on the square was a flower garden in the shape of a plate with knife, fork, and a drinking glass with a straw. I’m not quite sure why this theme was chosen: was it referring to edible plants and flowers or was it speaking metaphorically about the nourishment for the soul that a garden provides? whatever, there were more than enough plants and flowers to satisfy anyone’s “hunger”.
And when one tired of shopping for flowers, there was always coffee to be drunk....
....games to be played....
and musicians and dancers to be savored.
