Eating Our Way Through Lauzerte

Just when I began to think the Office of Tourism had not had a new idea in decades, I saw an announcement for  a Gourmet Discovery Tour of the village.  The only details were that it would be a walking tour that would include stops for tastings of sweet and savory products of the region.  As I would be having guests that weekend along with my family, I decided to sign us all up and hope for the best.

As it turned out, the best was very good indeed,  We had a personally guided tour by the Office of Tourism’s own William

that started in the Place du Chateau, followed the ramparts of the village to the Pilgrim’s garden, the town square, the Senechaux caves and the Hotel de Ville.

The highlight of the historical tour was undoubtedly the visit to the caves which were brilliantly illuminated by votive candles.

And the gourmet side of the tour was also memorable starting with fruit, juices and sweets

and followed by savory samplings of salad, foie gras, pate, and local Quercy wine.   Our only regret was that, having had dinner before the tour, we couldn’t do justice to all the wonderful food placed before us.
